The Valley of the End is located on the border of the Land of Fire and the Land of Sound. It was formed in the battle between Madara Uchiha, the founder of the Uchiha clan and Hashirama Senju, the shodai Hokage. It was also the location of Naruto's battle against Sasuke Uchiha, when the latter defected from Konoha to join Orochimaru, to gain the power he needed to complete his quest to kill Itachi.

The Village Hidden in the Sand is placed within the desert region known as the Land of Wind. The ninja here specialize in wind jutsu, and their leader, Gaara, was once the host of the One-Tailed Shukaku.

The Village Hidden in the Mist, formerly known among other ninja villages as The Village of the Bloody Mist, due to their graduation program, is famous for its incredibly powerful military. The ninja are skilled in water jutsu, and famous ninja are the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist, including Zabuza Momochi, Kisame Hoshigaki and Raiga Kurosuki. Madara Uchiha also became a Mizukage.

The Village Hidden in the Clouds is located in the Land of Thunder, a mountainous region prone to thunderstorms. The ninja of the village specialize in lightning jutsu, and have earned the animosity of the Hyuga Clan, for attempting to kidnap Hinata when she was three years old.

The Village Hidden in the Rocks is located within the Land of Earth, a country filled with barren, rocky surfaces. The ninja of the village specialize in earth jutsu. The ninja are incredibly loyal to the Tsuchikage, and nearly conquered Konoha during the Third Shinobi War.

The Village Hidden in Sound was formed by the rogue sannin, Orochimaru. It was not really a village, merely a bunch of bases scattered across the Land of Sonic and others. However, Naruto Uzumaki, Gaara and the other kage have set up an official village, and sent chunin and jonin of their villages to train ninja there to be respectable ninja, and perhaps even to set up a kage of their own, if their village becomes powerful enough to be recognized by the other nations.
